Where to stay

Four areas we love, from old to new.

Taipei hotels are everywhere in the city, but we loved staying in these areas most (blue-shaded on the map, from left to right).

Our favourite areas to stay, shaded blue; the pin marks our pick, the Waterfront Hotel.

Dadaocheng 大稻埕

The old city. Interestingly enough, brimming with Taipei's cheapest hotels. Loads of walking streets, bars and a few night markets. Also some handy bike shops for rentals, repairs and coffee. Close to Taipei Station 台北站 and the Ximending 西門町 shopping district.

Da'an district 大安區

Not a lot of hotels, but an area packed with lovely restaurants, coffee places and bars, with the nice Da'an Forest Park in the centre.

Xinyi district 信義區

The bustling new heart of the city, with major shopping centres and the iconic Taipei 101 tower. Always something to do, very modern.

Raohe Night Market area 饒河夜市

A personal favourite because of the riverside cycle path and the famous Raohe Street Night Market close by. Our pick is the Waterfront Hotel 松河璞旅, because of their relaxed attitude towards the specific needs of cyclists. They're usually fine storing your bike box for the duration of your trip if you book some nights in advance.
