Stage 11

90km
910m up
Effort: Moderate

Leaving Kenting, nothing will feel more rewarding than standing at Taiwan's Southernmost Point at Eluanbi 鵝鑾鼻, overlooking the South China Sea. If you're early you can cycle all the way to the statue.

After this, you officially cross over to the east coast, the second and very different part of your round-the-island trip! Enjoy the breathtaking views along the coastline, especially from the Longpan Park 龍磐公園 viewpoint. If you have time, you may go into the Jialeshui Scenic Area 佳樂水風景區 to see its rough rock formations up close.

Inland roads via Manzhou lead further north. In November 2024, road signs suggested a full closure, but we managed to get through to Daren 達仁 without any impediments. We really liked a midway lunch at I Know Aboriginal Restaurant 我就知道原住民風味餐.

If you're travelling motorised, or if time is on your side and you fancy cycling a total of 150–170 km today, skip the overnight in Daren. Otherwise, we advise you to find a guesthouse here; we stayed at 東方雲民宿.

Ferry from Houbihu Harbor 後壁湖, then on to Taitung

If you're planning to visit Orchid Island 蘭嶼 (Lányǔ) during your Round-the-Island loop, try to get a spot on the 3-hour ferry from Kenting (more specifically, from Houbihu Harbor 後壁湖) and add a few unique days to your trip by visiting this far-outlying aboriginal island. Skip the Kenting-Daren-Taitung/Dulan sections by hopping on a ferry back to Taitung. Alternatively you can take a (shorter/more available) return trip from the Fugang Wharf in Taitung.
